Since the early 1990’s the Major Contractors Group (now known as the UK Contractors Group) have been asking for their and their supply chain employees for proof of competence before allowing them access to site. It was quickly identified that much of the very experienced workforce could be lost to the industry as many of them had picked up their skills over many years, without the need for a qualification!
